Exhibition “Architectures of Cohabitation”, Arch+
To achieve the goal of more sustainable cities, we must not only understand living spaces for humans but also as cohabitats for other species. However, what does architecture look like when it takes into account not only human needs but also those of other non-human living beings? What do buildings and architectural elements look like that recognize these beings as co-inhabitants and grant them spatial agency instead of impeding, excluding, and repelling them?
The SwampLandRoof is a prototype that reconnects with the natural landscape of Berlin before urbanization, which was primarily swampland, and reintroduces it to the city by creating a rooftop ecosystem that can support a variety of plant and animal species not typically found in the current urban environment.
